Description

Southwest Fireproofing Type 5TM products use the classic noncombustible vermiculite and gypsum combination first introduced as a spray-applied fireproofing by the Vermiculite Institute in 1959. The beneficial combination of ingredients in these formulations has been continuously proven by use in demanding applications since then.

Specific Uses

Type 5EFTM is the second formula in the standard density category. It is designed to bond more tenaciously to Electrified Floors during fire exposure. Type 5EFTM provides maximum design flexibility because of its ability to be    used on hard to protect deck designs in addition to all designs listing Type 5GPTM.

Benefits

Type 5EFTM is user friendly. Application is economical because the product is simple and easy to mix, apply and clean up. The installed material is strong, durable and reliable. Physical properties meet or exceed industry standards as shown in the data table below.

Applications

Type 5EFTM is used for most standard density service conditions as shown in the Selection Chart.

TYPE 5EF CEMENTITIOUS FIREPROOFING IS SPRAY-APPLIED TO STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS OF BUILDINGS FOR FIRE RESISTANCE. UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES FIRE TEST RESULTS HAVE QUALIFIED IT FOR USE IN OVER 100 DESIGNS.   UL DESIGN PAGE

TYPE 5EF CEMENTITIOUS FIREPROOFING IS DERIVED FROM THE BENEFICIAL COMBINATION OF GYPSUM AND VERMICULITE. IT IS NON-COMBUSTIBLE AND UNDER FIRE, IT RELEASES WATER OF CRYSTALLIZATION WHICH TURNS TO STEAM AND RETARDS HEAT TRANSFER. TYPE 5GP HAS A CONTROLLABLE QUICK SET TIME WHICH EXPEDITES APPLICATION. THEREFORE, GYPSUM HAS ADVANTAGES OVER OTHER CEMENTS AS THE BINDER IN CEMENTITIOUS FIREPROOFING.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Specific values listed from laboratory testing of samples prepared and tested in accordance with the procedure designated.
